Putian
Known as Lychee City
Putian is a prefecture level city, in the eastern coast of Fujian Province. Surrounding cities are Fuzhou City in the north, Quanzhou City in the south, and facing Taiwan Strait in the east. As one of the Fujian industrial city, Putian also known as Lichee city, a large lichee producer.
Destination Spots
Meizhou Island is a famous island where Mazu (goddess of the sea) were born. This island can be accessed by 20 minutes sea travel via ferryboat from Putian City. Temple of Mazu is an attractive sites that also be a pilgrim destination, especially for Taiwanese, who majority Mazu worshipper.
Located at the foot of Phoenix Mountain, Guanghua Temple was built in 558 AD, and one of famous Buddhist temples in Fujian Province. The temple was originally entitled as Golden Immortal (Jinxian) Temple, in 976 Emperor Taizhong of Song Dynasty changed its name into Guanghua Temple which remain until today.
Nine Carp Lake is located at the peak of Wan Mountain, eastern part of Xianyou County. This scenic area known for its lakes, stone inscriptions, pools and the most popular sight is Nine Carp (Jiuli) Waterfalls.
Located at the foot of Mulan Mountain, southern part of Putian City, Mulan Pond is a well preserved ancient water project. Built in 1075 during The Song Dynasty (960-1127), Mulan Pond is one of largest irrigation system in ancient China.
