Hulishan Fort

Hulishan Fort is an ancient military facilities including barracks, secret tunnels, fortified building and dozens kind of canons, both Chinese and Western made. It is located in southern shore of Xiamen City, quite close to Xiamen University. Hulishan Fort originally was built in 1896 during the reign of Emperor Guang Xu, the sixth Emperor of the Qing Dynasty.

Hulishan Fort has a total area of 10,000 square meters, which is divided into barracks, secret tunnels, and fortified building. Hulishan Fort integrates the architectural style of a European defense structure and bunker alike during the Ming and Qing dynasties era.

As a prohibited military zone, Fort Hulishan close to the public until 1984. Visiting Hulishan Fort will remember us the history of Chinese coastal defense and its military defense. Visitors can look at the best protected and the biggest guns Krupp, a German cannon which was revered as king of the world of ancient cannons. Her body is 13.96 meters long and internal diameter of the muzzle is 28 cm. The whole gun weighs 59,888 kilograms. In addition, the museum inside the fort, where you see the world of precious stones, old guns and cannons, swords and ancient fossils old trees.
